The Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OIC OA) Sub-Committee on Women’s Rights held its high-level first meeting.
The Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan is represented in the Sub-Committee on Women’s Rights, which was established to strengthen institutional cooperation, promote and protect women’s rights, share best practices, and implement concrete measures.
Joining online to the event, Ayten Tarverdiyeva, Head of the Unit on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, spoke in detail about the activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman to protect women’s rights and promote gender equality.
The establishment of a dedicated structural equality unit within the premises of the ombuds institution, as well as the measures taken to more effectively protect female rights, were welcomed by the Sub-Committee as a good practice.
At the end, the Sub-Committee issued recommendations for enhancing the protection and promotion of women’s rights in OIC Member States and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation.
