A city tour was organized for children undergoing rehabilitation at a penitentiary institution

One of the main directions of the legal reforms implemented by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms was the humanization of penal policy.

The successful policy of the National Leader that is today being continued by President Ilham Aliyev, the protection of the rights of socially vulnerable groups of the population, as well as of prisoners, is consistently kept in focus in our country. The comprehensive care and support of children also occupy an important place in various socially significant projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation under the leadership of First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, consistently keeps the situation regarding the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups of the population under close attention.

On the eve of 31 December – World Solidarity Day of Azerbaijanis and the forthcoming new year, one-day city tour for three juveniles to the historical-cultural monuments, recreation, and public catering facilities in the correctional facility of the penitentiary institution (complex) of the Ministry of Justice. 

Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva visited the grave of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev together with them, laid fresh flowers in front of the monument, and commemorated his memory with deep respect. The Alley of Martyrs was visited, where the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was honored with reverence. Subsequently, the Alley of Martyrs was visited, and the dearest memories of martyrs fallen for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan were  commemorated.  

The Ombudsman informed the children about the honorable life path of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the independent Azerbaijani state, and his role in the history of the country’s development, and provided them with recommendations regarding their personal development, the protection of their rights, their education, vocational skills, and rehabilitation.  

During the excursion, visits were organized for the juveniles to the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Baku Zoological Park, and Icherisheher (the Old City). In addition, within the framework of the organized cultural program, the children watched the film “Taghiyev,” dedicated to the life of philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev.

The Ombudsman and the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice will continue activities that positively impact on the moral development and social reintegration of juveniles undergoing rehabilitation.
