The situation regarding the protection of children’s rights in a state child-care institution was examined by staff of the Ombudsman Office

Within the mandates of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, encompassing the national preventive mechanism and the independent monitoring mechanism for the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, representatives of the Office conducted a monitoring visit to the Technical Sciences Boarding School-Lyceum named after Kamaladdin Aghayev in Bilasuvar city.

During the monitoring visit, the boarding facilities, such as dining areas, medical units, classrooms, and other administrative spaces of the child-care institution, were inspected; the created conditions and supply in the boarding facility for the purpose of the protection of children’s rights were assessed. Individual interviews were conducted with the institution’s management, staff, and children in order to examine matters related to conduct and treatment.

Based on the findings of the investigation, the management of the institution was provided with recommendations to further improve the protection of children’s rights within the facility, particularly regarding the storage of food samples in the kitchen and the strengthening of control over the expiration dates of medicines in the medical unit, and the relevant legal requirements were explained.

The execution of the recommendations will be subject to monitoring by the institution.
