The Ombudsman Office signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation

The Ombudsman Office signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC). 

During the signing ceremony, the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva noted that MoE is a crucial document facilitating effective protection of human rights, especially labor and social and economic rights, as well as for strengthening the institutional cooperation. 

The Ombudsman also emphasized the importance of this bilateral document in terms of the restoration of violated rights and the development of legal culture.  Sabina Aliyeva said that the MoC will make a significant contribution  to further enhancing the existing relationships and sharing best practices in the field of labor rights protection by laying the foundation of a new phase between two institutions. 

At the meeting, the ATUC Chairman, Sahib Mammadov, underlined the successfully implemented comprehensive development strategy founded by the National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, and the President, Ilham Aliyev, and that human rights, including labor rights, are robustly protected. Highly effective collaboration is implemented by the Ombudsman Office as an institution that plays an essential role in this field.

In addition, the ATUC Chairman outlined the measures undertaken by the confederation, including for the digitalization of the trade union system, the expansion of e-services and the establishment of more accessible mechanisms for its members, reforms, implemented projects, and public awareness-raising activities, the promotion of gender equality, and safe work environment. 

The measures considered under the said MoC include conducting awareness-raising initiatives on labor rights, developing legal knowledge, effectively protecting of the rights of vulnerable groups, and advancing the labor legislation.
