During the "Human Rights Month" initiated by the Ombudsman, an awareness-raising event titled "The Role of the Vocational and Labor Rehabilitation Center in Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Developing an Inclusive Society." The event was held at the Vocational and Labor Rehabilitation Center for PWDs under the Social Services Agency.
Ayten Tarverdiyeva, Head of the Unit for the Protection of the PWDs’ Rights of the Ombudsman Office provided information on the activities of the Ombudsman’s Monitoring Group on CRPD implementation. She underlined the measures undertaken by the Ombudsman institution for the protection and promotion of the PWDs rights, focusing on ensuring their accessibility, and building an inclusive society.
It was noted that the Ombudsman's monitoring group assesses the accessibility of public spaces, pedestrian crossings, and transport and information infrastructure in Baku. This assessment is aimed at ensuring the equal, barrier-free, and effective participation of PWDs in education, employment, healthcare, transport, culture, and other fields.
During the event, success stories of the beneficiaries were shared, highlighting the crucial role of rehabilitation services in developing their professional skills and fostering their integration into society. Furthermore, an interactive exchange of views took place, where participants' questions were answered and their proposals were noted.
At the conclusion, the importance of joint cooperation toward protecting the rights of PWDs, expanding their opportunities for independent living, and developing an inclusive society was once again emphasized.
