The Ombudsman’s Representatives Participated in the Execution Process of the Pardon Order

The Ombudsman’s representatives participated in the execution process of the pardon order signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
Pursuant to the Order, 19 individuals sentenced to imprisonment and one individual under restriction of liberty were released from the remainder of their sentence terms. 
The pardoned also included those whose release was granted pursuant to petitions filed by the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman’s representatives attended ceremonies held at the relevant institutions of the Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service, where they observed the handover of release documents to the pardoned.
During these events, the released individuals received legal guidance on exercising their rights and freedoms, and on their reintegration and social adaptation into society.
The Ombudsman regularly reviews appeals for pardon from convicts and, when appropriate, submits petitions to the Commission on Pardon Issues.
