General Secondary School No. 55 Inspected Under the Ombudsman’s Independent Monitoring Mechanism

Monitoring of accessibility in education for persons with disabilities, including children continues under the Ombudsman’s independent mandate to monitor and promote the implementation of CRPD.

An off-cycle monitoring was conducted at Baku General Secondary School No. 55. The main objective was to assess the educational process in special classes designed for children with hearing and speech impairments.

The staff members from the Ombudsman Office held private discussions with the principle, teaching staff, a speech therapist, and students with disabilities. In addition, team members observed lessons in these classes and evaluated the overall learning process and development facilities.

The finding highlighted a clear need for specialized speech therapy equipment and tools. Furthermore, the school was recommended to foster greater communication between students with disabilities and the general student body.
