The Ombudsman attended the international conference on mine action in Agdam

Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan attended the second international conference on humanitarian demining, under the theme " Mine Action- The Path to Sustainable Development Goals" was held in Agdam by the “ANAMA” and the UN.

The conference has brought together parliamentarians from several countries, senior managers from important international and regional organizations, including the UN headquarters, demining organizations, and representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness among the international community about the severity of the landmine situation our people is currently experiencing and its consequences.

The vehicle that was rendered useless as a result of the mine explosion that killed the workers of the drone-based landmine detection organization on April 28 of this year while they wore working in the direction of Tapgaragoyunlu of Tartar district, as well as mines and unexploded ordnance discovered in the liberated areas were displayed during the exhibition held during the international conference.

It should be also noted that the Ombudsman carried out fact-finding missions to investigate Armenia’s war crimes and violations of IHL committed during the Patriotic War, and issued reports based on the factual materials obtained and submitted to relevant international organizations.

In addition, the Ombudsman also repeatedly appealed to the international community regarding the human casualties caused by the mines planted by Armenia during the occupation in the liberated areas and the current situation that threatens peace and tranquility in the region.
