Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan, received Ms. Bik Lum, a newly appointed representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Azerbaijan.
In the meeting, the Ombudsman, while congratulating the guest on her appointment, wished her success in the work in our country. Then, she informed the guest about the activities carried out as a part of the cooperation between the Ombudsman Institution and UNHCR.
Aliyeva briefed on her work in the field of protection of the rights of women, children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons and emphasized that it is necessary to continue the joint educational, legal aid, and monitoring activities in this respect.
During the meeting, the measures undertaken to ensure the safe return of our refugees and former IDPs, whose fundamental rights and freedoms have been violated due to Armenia’s ethnic cleansing and occupation policies, were also brought to the guest's attention, who consequently underlined the importance of support by the international organizations.
Ms. B. Lum thanked the Ombudsman for the sincere reception and expressed her interest in strengthening the existing cooperation with the Ombudsman Institution.
Overall, other issues were discussed by both sides during the meeting.
