The Ombudsman participated in an international conference in the Kingdom of Morocco

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsperson) Sabina Aliyeva participated in the international conference "Ensuring the development dimension of human rights effectiveness in public policies: What role for Ombudsmen and Mediators?" held in Rabat on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Ombudsman Institute of the Kingdom of Morocco.

S. Aliyeva congratulated the Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Morocco and the staff of the institution on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of their institution and wished them success in their future activities.

During her speech, the Ombudsperson drew attention to the negative impact on human rights of the crisis situations that have occurred in the world due to natural disasters and military conflicts in recent times, and emphasized the importance of the solidarity of the world states in solving problems arising from this. She also noted the importance of the role of national human rights institutions in the effective protection of human rights during natural disasters, pandemics and military conflicts.

Speaking about the directions of her activity in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, the Ombudsperson focused on the positive practices gained by the institution in the field of effective protection of the rights of especially vulnerable groups of population during the pandemic and military conflict. It was noted that in such cases, it is very important to facilitate the opportunities of citizens to appeal to the Ombudsperson and to respond rapidly to their appeals.

Speaking about the war crimes committed by Armenia during the 44-day Patriotic War, the Ombudsperson gave information about the reports prepared on the basis of her fact-finding missions carried out during the war and post-war period. It was noted that those reports were sent to international human rights organizations and references were made to those reports by a number of international organizations.

It was stated that the mines buried by Armenia in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan during the occupation of those territories pose a serious threat to people's lives and health, and also slow down the peace process in the region by creating a serious obstacle to the return of former IDPs to their native lands.

In conclusion, the Ombudsperson called on the world community not to remain silent and to show unity against massive and gross violations of human rights.

The conference continued its work with discussions around the speeches.
