On February 3, 2023, the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva spoke at an international conference held by the Embassy of Pakistan in Azerbaijan, in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day
During her speech at the conference, Ombudsman highlighted the close alliance between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, emphasizing Pakistan's long-standing support for Azerbaijan's just position both politically and morally, noting that Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence.
She also said that today relations between the two brotherly countries in various fields are growing.
Ombudsman mentioned that along with collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in other fields, particularly in the field of protection of human rights, the Ombudsman institutions of both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure effective defense of rights and freedoms.
Sabina Aliyeva said that various meetings that she had with high-level officials from Pakistan as an Ombudsman contribute to the strengthening and deepening of cooperation between the two nations.
She emphasized that one of the most critical issues facing the world in recent years is the restoration of violated rights and prevention of all actions against fundamental human rights and freedoms in the midst of terrorist acts, civil wars, crimes against peace and humanity, and territorial and ethnic conflicts.
She expressed concern about the conflict over the Kashmir region that remained unresolved despite the UNSC relevant Resolutions, causing suffering to thousands of people over the past half-century.
In conclusion, Ombudsman expressed hope that the Kashmir conflict would be resolved as soon as possible through peaceful means under international law.
