Regional Centers of the Ombudsman held events within the framework of an international campaign '16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence'

The Western, North-Western, Northern and Southern Regional Centers of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan joined the international campaign "16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" held worldwide from November 25 to December 10 at the initiative of the United Nations (UN). The Ombudsman's Regional Centers organized a series of legal outreach events on this topic towards promoting the 5th goal of the SDGs, in accordance with the Action Plan for raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

An event on "Combating Gender-Based Violence" was held in Goygol district with the joint organization of the Western Regional Center of the Ombudsman, the GoygolDistrict Executive Power and the Goygol Child and Family Support Center of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.

The next educational event was organized by the North-Western Regional Center of the Ombudsman with the participation of teachers and students at Sheki Medical College.

The Northern Regional Ombudsman Center also joined this international action and, together with the Guba District Executive Power and the Guba District Youth and Sports Department, held educational events at the Guba State Socio-Economic College and at the Guba city natural sciences oriented school-lyceum No. 2 named after Azad Mammadov. At the end of the event, which was attended by representatives of the public, students and youth, a discussion took place on the topic and answers were given to the questions of the participants.

Another legal educational event was jointly organized by the Ombudsman’s Southern Regional Center, the Astara District Heydar Aliyev Center and Astara State Art Gallery. Within the framework of the event, an exhibition of handicrafts of students of the Astara State Art Gallery was viewed.

During their speeches, the heads of the regional Ombudsman’s Centers informed the participants about the goals of the "16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" campaign, current international documents in the field of women's rights protection and the adopted national legislative acts, as well as national action plans. In addition, attention was drawn to the work carried out by the Ombudsman regarding the protection of women's rights, including the protection of the rights of women and children subjected to violence.
