According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Institution (THREI) and the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan, the works are being continued on the extension of mutual relations and organization of effective exchange of experience in the protection of human rights and freedoms. For this reason, THREI Delegation paid a visit to Azerbaijan.
During this period, a visit to the Baku City Detention Center for Irregular Migrants of the State Migration Service was conducted together with the national preventive group of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman.
In the course of the visit, the delegation inspected living rooms and other buildings used by aliens and stateless persons in the whole area of the detention center in order to get acquainted with the modes of the facility. The delegation members also had talks with the management of the detention facility, a doctor affiliated with this center, and detained persons.
The delegation was largely informed of the national legislation, activity directions of the Migration Service, and joint measures taken together with the Ombudsman Office in the field of management and regulation of migration processes, as well as works done by the Ombudsman on the protection of migrants' rights at national and international levels and returning non-nationals to their home countries and other activities. The delegation members also closely familiarized themselves with the activity of the NPM of Azerbaijan Ombudsman.
In the interim of inspection, opinions and experiences were exchanged, and questions of interest to the guests were answered in detail.
