The Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva received an Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic for Eastern Partnership, Mr. Brice Roquefeuil and French Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary in Azerbaijan, Mr. Zacharie Gross.
At the meeting, Ms. Aliyeva provided the diplomats with broad information on the mandate of the Ombudsman Institution and multidimensional activities in the field of protection of human rights. It was also spoken about activities of the Ombudsman during the wartime and aftermath, fact-finding missions and Armenia’s gross violations of the norms and principles of international human rights and humanitarian law during the Second Karabakh War.
The sides also discussed complex measures undertaken by the State to return the Azerbaijani internally displaced persons to their native liberated territories, furthermore, the mine problem existing in the freed areas of Azerbaijan, as well as the complete destruction of dwellings, which impede the repatriation of about one million IDPs.
The concerns about fates of around four thousand compatriots taken hostage and prisoner during the First and Second Karabakh Wars were also brought to the attention of the guests.
Also, at the meeting, the sides discussed the importance of the role of national human rights institutions and cooperation in the field of normalizing the current situation.
