The head of the Ombudsman's Ganja Regional Center Mr. Sabuhi Abbasov spoke at a roundtable dedicated to the topic "The role of social services for the welfare of children with disabilities" organized by the United Aid for Azerbaijan (UAFA) Ganja Community-Based Rehabilitation Center in Ganja in the Center named after Mahsati Ganjavi.
The event brought together the representatives of the Ganja City Executive Power, state agencies, NGOs, and the media. The representative of the Ombudsman Institution said that Azerbaijani Ombudsman always focuses on effectively ensuring the rights of people with disabilities (PWDs) and added that for this reason, a specific unit on PWDs rights was established within the premises of the Ombudsman Institution on the initiative of Sabina Aliyeva.
?t was said that Ombudsman and its NPM Group conduct systematic visits to ensure the efficacy of the protection of the rights of PWDs and improvement of their detention conditions and treatment issues in places where people cannot leave at will.
?t was also noted that the Ombudsman issues inquiries and requests to relevant competent state agencies to increase the effectiveness of ensuring the rights of PWDs and older persons, residing in state-owned social-service institutions.
The other participants and NGOs also spoke at the round table and the problems faced by PWDs were widely discussed at the event.
