The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva always pays attention to the situation of ensuring the rights of the vulnerable population, including prisoners. The Ombudsman took part in an event organized by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice at the juvenile correctional facility on the occasion of December 31 - the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and the New Year.
The event was attended by the head of Liatris Holding Ms. Ruhi Aliyeva, members of the Ombudsman's National Preventive Group, employees of the Penitentiary Service, representatives of a number of NGOs, as well as Ms. Laman Gafarzade, the winner of the "Rise Up" contest and who is mentored by the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman met with juveniles at the correctional facility, congratulated them on the upcoming holidays, expressed her best wishes, held awareness-raising talks, and gave relevant recommendations to them.
The Ombudsman conducted individual interviews with minors, listened to their appeals, and gave instructions to the management of the institution.
The participants of the event got acquainted with the composition "Iron Fist" dedicated to the 44-day Patriotic War by juveniles engaged in sculpture and commended their work.
During the event, holiday gifts, hygienic means, and warm clothes were distributed to juveniles.
Holiday gifts were also presented to children staying together with their detained mothers in the female penitentiary institution No. 4 under the Penitentiary Service.
