Ombudsman conducted Fact-Finding Missions to Fuzuli and Zengilan districts

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva conducts fact-finding missions (FFM) on the destruction of cemeteries by Armenia during the occupation period. The main purpose of these Missions is to monitor the intentionality of the destruction of graves of Azerbaijanis and determine the existing law violations committed by the Armenian side in the occupied territory of Azerbaijan about 30 years old.

In the course of the missions, her first investigation, the Ombudsman conducts in the cemeteries of the liberated Fuzuli city and Garakhanbeyli, Dedeli, and Kurdler villages of Fuzuli district. During the monitoring, it was found that those cemeteries were largely destroyed.

Ombudsman continued her next Mission to the Zengilan district. During the Mission, factual evidence is collected by monitoring the destroyed cemeteries in the Mammadbeyli and Agalikend villages in Zengilan district.

In the course of the mission, it was also determined that Armenia not only destroyed the graves but also planted landmines in the period of occupation against international law, especially international humanitarian law.

It should be noted that the Ombudsman will issue a mission report based on the materials amassed to address it to international human rights institutions.
