During the official visit of the Delegation led by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva to Bulgaria, the Ombudsman was in the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of the host country. During the meeting, discussions were held with the Minister Mr. Galab Donev on the issues related to the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in both countries.
The Ombudsman has provided the information about the work done in the field of protection of the rights and freedoms of PWDs and relevant proposals indicated in the Annual reports. She also reiterated the establishment of the relevant Unit at the Office.
Ms. Aliyeva stressed the importance of the societal integration of this category of persons and added that our Paralympic athletes have won 14 golden, 1 silver, and one bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
During the meeting, it was also noted that as a result of the Patriotic War in 2020, along with servicemen, there were many civilians killed, wounded, many of them were given disabilities status. The Ombudsman also spoke about the state care, as well as the provision of apartments and cars provided to PWDs who were veterans of both the First and Second Karabakh Wars.
In the end, the Minister highly appreciated the noted practice of Azerbaijan, as well as the international cooperation of the Ombudsman in the concerned field.
