The Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the Central Election Commission, continues its series of awareness-raising events on the eve of the forthcoming early presidential elections. Events on "Ensuring Citizens' Voting Rights" were organized in Baku, Ganja, Sheki, Masalli, Guba, and Nakhchivan.
Continuing the series of events, the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, conducted observations in the liberated territories, investigating the general situation regarding the forthcoming early presidential elections, including the ensuring citizens' right to vote.
During the observations in the newly established election precincts in Khankendi, Shusha, and Lachin, the Ombudsman closely acquainted herself with the preparation process for the forthcoming early presidential elections. She looked over the voter lists at the precincts and learnt about measures taken for election preparation and the situation regarding ensuring voting rights.
The Ombudsman also held meetings with the citizens who returned to their native lands, and had discussions about the election process, the rights and responsibilities of voters, and other related issues. It was observed that the necessary conditions as provided by the law have been created for citizens living in the liberated territories, to exercise their rights to vote.
It is noteworthy that, for the first time, presidential elections of crucial importance will be held in all territories of our sovereign country, including our liberated territories. It should be noted that 26 election precincts have been established in these areas to ensure the voting rights of persons who were engaged in building and reconstruction works and who were returned to their homeland.
