The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held the first meeting of the CIS Commissioners for Child Rights (Ombudsmen) on September 14, 2021, in the format of a video conference. The meeting was attended by representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Commissioners for Child Rights of the CIS Member States, representatives of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and officials responsible for child rights and representatives of other agencies.
During the event, there were discussed the exchange of experience between the ombudsman institutions in the field of protection of children's rights and their legitimate interests, the development of joint action plans in this field and the establishment of mutual relations between experts on scientific and practical seminars, facilitation of information exchange between countries and other issues.
Ms. Nigar Agayeva, the Head of the Sector for the Protection of Children's Rights of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered a speech during this event and briefed the participants on the activities of the Ombudsman in the field of child rights and shared the experience of the institution on issues raised in this area.
She also informed about the investigation of the appeals on the protection of child rights addressed to the Ombudsman, as well as cooperation with the CIS Member States commissioners in resolving the problems of children of civilians fighting within armed troops in the Middle East, held hostage in camps.
