The Ombudsman received an Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva received an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Azerbaijan, Mr. James Sharp.

At the meeting, the Ombudsman briefed her activity, as well as Fact-Finding Missions to investigate the destructions and human casualties inflicted as a result of Armenian fire attacks on civilian objects during the 44 day-long Second Karabakh War and special reports prepared based on the outcomes of those Missions.

It was said that although the war has ended, however the refusal to provide mine maps of the liberated areas, where hundreds of thousands of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines had been buried by the Armenian armed forces, created serious impediments to the repatriation of internally displaced persons to their homes.

Mr. Sharp, in his, turn, thanked the Ombudsman for the warm reception and detailed information about the work of the Institution. He also expressed his interest to cooperate for the effective protection of human rights and promotion of the supremacy of the law.

The sides discussed other issues during the meeting as well.
