The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan Mr. Erkan Özoral before his departure as an ambassador in our country.
The Ombudsman hailed the close ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey developing in different areas on a regular basis. Ms. Aliyeva noted the importance of the support to Azerbaijan by the Turkish government and people during the Patriotic War. Ombudsman mentioned that the Embassy of Turkey to Azerbaijan had taken noteworthy activities for informing the international community about the just struggle of Azerbaijan for the liberation of its lands as well as attacks targeting civilian settlements of Azerbaijan by Armenian military forces.
Ms. Aliyeva also pointed out the effective cooperation with the Ombudsman Institution of Turkey and the activities conducted by the Chief Ombudsman of Turkey Mr. ?eref Malkoç to raise awareness of the world community about facts related to violations of international law norms and human rights by Armenia both during the 44-day war and in the post-conflict period. Furthermore, the Ombudsman spoke about the fruitful meetings held with high-ranking Turkish state officials during her recent visit to Turkey at the invitation of the Chief Ombudsman of Turkey.
In his turn, Ambassador Mr. Erkan Özoral thanked the Ombudsman for the effective coperation during her term of office. He stressed that the developing relations covering different spheres, including human rights protection, between two countries are of special importance. Mr. Özoral noted that he was proud of contributing to fostering cooperation between brotherly nations and witnessing the liberation of the Azerbaijani lands as a result of the Patriotic War while he was serving as an Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
