The Turkish Minister of Justice received the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan

As a part of the official visit to Turkey, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Ms. Sabina Aliyeva was received by the Turkish Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdulhamit Gül.  

During the meeting, Mr. Abdulhamit Gül underlined that the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, which are based on brotherhood and friendship, are constantly developed, stressing also the immense importance of cooperation in the field of protection of human rights. 

Ms. Sabina Aliyeva thanked the Minister for his warm reception. During the discussions, she spoke about the essence and importance of the Presidential Order of 10 February 2017, "On improvement of activities in the penitentiary sphere, humanization of the penal policy and expansion of the application of alternative punishment and procedural coercive measures not related to isolation from society".   

The Azerbaijani Ombudsman said that the decree on pardoning signed by the President, dated 18 March 2021, in general, covered 625 convicts. It was also noted that in accordance with Article 1.7 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan On the Ombudsman and by the motions of the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, 72 imprisoned persons have been granted pardoning. In general, from the beginning, in general, 774 inmates, including juveniles, women, the elderly, the sick, and other categories of persons in prison have been pardoned by the motions of the Commissioner for Human Rights.  

The parties have discussed the perspectives of bilateral cooperation.
