An online awareness-raising event on combating trafficking in human beings (THB) was organized by Tovuz Youth House.
The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) was represented at the event by the Head of Ombudsman's Ganja Regional Center, Sabuhi Abbasov. Doctor of Law, Professor M.Aliyev, Director of Tovuz Youth House R. Rustamov and Chairman of the Youth Solidarity Public Union, member of the Coalition at the Main Department for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Z. Nuriyeva also spoke at the event.
Welcoming the participants on behalf of the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva and congratulating them on the glorious victory in the Patriotic War and December 10 - Human Rights Day, Sabuhi Abbasov gave detailed information about the measures taken in our country to combat THB.
It was noted that our country has a successful practice against socially dangerous acts that violate human rights, as a result of the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan Law on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings on June 28, 2005, the legal and organizational basis of the fight in this area, as well as the legal status of victims of THB, regulating their protection and assistance, also due to the effective implementation of national action plans to combat THB.
Measures envisaged in the National Action Plan for 2020-2024 on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is currently being implemented, create favorable grounds for ensuring an effective system that allows the interaction of relevant bodies in the combatting THB.
During the online event there was provided the information on the Ombudsman's multi-directional activities in the fight against THB, as well as the institution's success in educating the population, increasing legal knowledge in this field in educational institutions, and putting forward effective proposals to relevant agencies. The participants were also informed about the activities of the 916 Call Center established at the Ombudsman Office, the opportunities to apply to the Ombudsman by mail, in an online form, telephone, through social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event continued in an environment of active discussions on the topic and the questions of young people were answered in detail.
