The Ombudsman held online meeting with the head of the ICRC in Azerbaijan

The  Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Ms.Sabina Aliyeva held an online meeting with the Head of ICRC in Azerbaijan, Ms. Ariane Bauer.

During the meeting held on November 22, 2020, the Ombudsman informed Ms. Bauer based on the facts of inhuman treatment and torture of Azerbaijani soldiers  captured by the Armenian military, and the real images shared via social media platform. She noted that unfortunately it was not possible to have any information on the prisoners of war, whose images shown on the videos.

The Ombudsman also created an opportunity for the families of those two Azerbaijani POWs to participate in the online meeting through which those families have requested the ICRC head in Azerbaijan to ensure the rights of their captive children and to return them home.

Ms. Sabina Aliyeva noted that the issue of Azerbaijani soldiers captured by the Armenian armed forces strictly followed by her since the beginning, and she has consistently sent appeals to relevant international organizations.

In her turn, Ms. Bauer said she would take all necessary actions within her mandate to address the issues raised at the meeting.
