On 7 November, 2020, in accordance with the National Action Plan on Combating Human Trafficking in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2020-2024, an online meeting was held in order to strengthen measures to prevent child marriage within the joint cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Republic Center for Child and Youth Development, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, issues of raising awareness on the prevention of child marriage, protection of the rights of young girls and their education, maternal and infant mortality, domestic violence, prevention of human rights violations, especially children's rights were discussed by specialists and experts.
It was noted that every year, at the threshold of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) anniversary, the Ombudsman at national level initiates “Child Rights Month-Long” campaign from 20 October to 20 November to ensure that the children receives more attention and the child rights protection is further strengthened.
During the meeting, Azer Isali, a staff member of the Ombudsman Office has provided information about the Ombudsman’s activities carried out for protection and promotion of children’s rights, which is an integral part of human rights, also actions taken during the pandemic period.
It was also noted that one of the main activities of the HRCA in the relevant field is also awareness-raising activities.
It was noted that the 916 Call Center is operating in the Office in order to identify and investigate violations of children’s rights and others on time.
Representatives of the organizations had interactive discussions on the topic.
