Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva sent a report to the international community on ballistic missile attacks by Armenia on Barda city

As it is known, on October 27 and 28, 2020, Armenia fired rockets at the densely populated and busy areas in the Barda region of Azerbaijan using prohibited weapons. As a result, a total of 25 civilians were killed and more than 80 were injured in two days. Consecutive attacks on Barda, especially on October 28, targeted the central part of Barda, where many commercial facilities were destroyed.

In this regard, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has conducted a fact-finding mission in the Barda district. During the investigation, it was verified that Armenia has used cluster bombs against civilians and civilian objects in Barda city, which is prohibited under international law, as well as collected materials related to the human losses and destruction.

The Report based on materials collected by the Ombudsman, called on the international community to take measures to prevent crimes against peace and humanity committed by Armenia in violation of the international law, including international humanitarian law.

The report covers the period of October 27 and 28, 2020, and is addressed to the UN Secretary-General, UN Security Council, OHCHR, UNHCR, UN HRC, UNICEF, UNESCO, EU, CoE, OSCE, IOI and EOI, AOA, OIC and Association of Ombudsmen, Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC, ENOC, Peace Bureau, ombudsmen of different countries and NHRIs, embassies of Azerbaijan abroad and foreign countries in Azerbaijan, as well as Diaspora organizations.
