Staff member of the Ombudsman Office participated in an online webinar of the ICMPD RESTART Project

International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) launched an online webinar on the topic “EU Return Operations and Impact of COVID-19 pandemic” in the frame of the “Reintegration Support to Azerbaijani Returnees” (RESTART) project, which has brought together around 100 stakeholders from various state agencies of Azerbaijan and international experts, including ICMPD Baku Office staff. 

The webinar was focused on the issues related to the main problems in the field of migration, labor migration, reduced amount of remittances for migrants, humanitarian situation, increased number of incidents of xenophobia and discrimination against migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan was represented in this webinar by its staff member Elvin Hajiyev who actively participated in the discussions. He gave broad information about the activities of the HRCA in protection of migrants’ rights and readmission processes. 

The webinar participants underlined the importance of similar discussions in terms of positive developments in readmission and migration issues.
