Visit to the Penitentiary Facility No. 9

By the instructions of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the National Preventive Group (NPG) members have conducted monitoring in the penitentiary facility No. 9 of the Ministry of Justice Penitentiary Service upon the request of the convicted persons.

During the monitoring conducted in line with the OPCAT and the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman, the convicts were received and interviewed confidentially. The issues related to detention conditions, treatment, medical care and ensuring the rights of convicts serving their sentence in the facility have been inspected by the NPG members.   

The interviewed convicts were given legal advice on the questions they raised and informed about the mandate of the Ombudsman. 

The appeals addressed to the Ombudsman were received as well.
