Ganja Regional Center of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan jointly with the Ganja City Community-based Rehabilitation Center of United Aid for Azerbaijan (UAFA) held an online event on the topic “Role of the Ombudsman Office in protection of the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs)”. The event brought together the PWDs and children with limited health capacities, who benefited from this rehabilitation center and their parents.
During the meeting, the head of Ganja Regional Center gave information about the activities of the Ombudsman on ensuring the PWDs’ rights, including the establishment of a new Sector on the Protection of the Rights of PWDs in the Office, official requests and recommendations of the Ombudsman to the state bodies in the past period of time with the purpose to increase the protection of the rights of PWDs and older persons, residing in state owned social-care institutions. It should be noted that in most cases, the necessary measures for their ensuring have been taken.
The participants were informed about the existed relevant international and national standards. The questions concerning the activities of the Ombudsman were answered respectively.
