Jalilabad Regional Center of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan together with the district Youth and Sport Department organized an online event on the topics “Sustainable Peace serves human rights promotion” and “The Right of Peoples to Peace”. The event brought together various public and social-care and educational institutions’ representatives, volunteers and young activists.
During the online event it was spoken about the close interlink among the notions of peace, life, and healthy generations, which would depend on the sustainable peace in the entire world, full realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as maintenance of the peace and security.
Later, it was reminded the blatant and regular violations of Armenia of the ceasefire, targeting civilians and their objects as well as hostage-taking, which had negatively affected the everyday life of people living there, including threatening to their lives and severely violating their rights to life, free movement and the right to peace as well as international law of armed conflict.
At the meeting, also, it was underlined the importance of the enforcement of the UN General Assembly Resolution dated March 14, 2008, reaffirming territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and demanding withdrawal of all Armenian forces; it was also stated that the disregard for peace and security, the misappropriation of our existing cultural heritage in the occupied territories and the ruthless destruction of our unique historical monuments have negatively affected the establishment of peace in the world. At the same time, it was stated the need for the international community to take decisive measures to strengthen peace throughout the world, to resolve armed conflicts in a just and peaceful manner in conformity with the principles of international law.
