The Ombudsman met with the representatives of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Azerbaijan

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva held a meeting with the Chargé d’affaires of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Azerbaijan, Mr. Naveed Anjum and Defense Attache Mr.Usman Aslam.

The Commissioner noted that the fraternal relationship between two countries have deep historical roots and develops in economic, social, cultural and other spheres on an ascending line. She highlighted the fact that Pakistan was one of the first countries recognizing the independence of Azerbaijan, also spoke about the mutual support of our states to each other at the international level.

The Commissioner touched upon the mutual cooperation between Ombudsman institutions of Azerbaijan and Pakistan. She stated that Memorandum of Understanding signed by those institutions greatly contributes to effective protection of human rights and freedoms of the citizens of two countries.

It was also mentioned that the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), in which the Azerbaijani Ombudsman holds the vice-president position, supports building strong ties among Ombudsman institutions of Far East and Asia.

While speaking about the activity of the AOA, the Commissioner emphasized the role of the Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan, who is the President of the AOA, in the development of that Association.

Mr.Naveed Anjum thanked the Azerbaijani Ombudsman for warm reception and briefed the significance of peace-loving state policies of Azerbaijan and Pakistan. He mentioned that upholding sustainable activities aimed at ensuring peace, tranquility and human rights is of special importance. The Chargé d’affaires also added that he follows the multifaceted activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman institution for ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms in the country and stressed the importance of further developing the bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting the parties also conducted exchange of views on the issues of mutual interest.
