The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva continues legal-awareness events for the law-enforcement authorities in the related educational facilities as a part of the work of NPM.
With close support of the Ministry of Justice, the next lecture about the Ombudsman as the NPM was delivered online for the staff of the Forensic Science Center. The lecturer was the head of the NPM group at the Ombudsman Office, Rashid Rumzada.
The listeners of the online course were given the broad information about legal reforms implemented domestically, the activity of the Ombudsman in the field of human rights protection and as the NPM, visits to the places of deprivation of liberty, the approaches of the Ombudsman Office to the issues of treatment, detention condition and the documentation, follow-up visits to check the implementation status of the previously recommendations, and the relevant national and international good practices.
The course participants have been also given comparative legal analysis of the UN official document - Istanbul Protocol, which is also known as the Manual of Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, SPT Recommendations and CPT general standards and the national legal acts.
The lecturer answered the questions of the course participants concerning the general activity of the Ombudsperson in the field of protection and promotion of human rights.
