Constitution Research Foundation has organized an event within the program “Promoting the Role of Civil Society in Gender-sensitive Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” supported by the EU and UNDP. The online event brought together representatives of local civil society, international organizations and state bodies.
During the event, a group of experts led by the director of the Constitution Research Foundation, Alimammad Nuriyev has conducted an online public discussion regarding proposals related to amendments to the laws on “Guarantees of Gender Equality (Men and Women)”, “Prevention of Domestic Violence”, also to Codes of Labor and Administrative Offences of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the purpose of enhancing guarantees for women’s rights in Azerbaijan.
The chief advisor of the Ombudsman Office, Lamiya Zeynalova greeted the participants on behalf of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, and noted that protecting women’s rights and ensuring gender equality are among the priorities in the Ombudsman’s activities. She noted that providing equal opportunities to women and girls for representation in education and healthcare services, adequate work, political and economical decision-making processes would bring benefit to sustainable economics, in general to societies and mankind.
It was also noted that the Ombudsman put forward proposals for different draft laws and strategic documents while acting in cooperation with relevant state bodies, international organizations, NGOs and mass media. The representative added that consideration of those proposals by corresponding state bodies will contribute to the improvement of legislation and protection of women’s rights.
In the course of the event, the participants discussed about the gaps and problems in the relevant legislative acts, amendments in progress, and sounded a number of proposals.
The facilitators of the event emphasized that the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan always supports and collaborates with the civil society.
