Legal awareness events are underway within framework of NPM activities of Ombudsman

Legal awareness-raising measures are continued in educational institutions for training staff of law-enforcement bodies within the framework of National Preventive Mechanism (NPM)activity of the Ombudsman.

The compulsory course program of the Academy of Justice included subjects on human rights and those related to NPM activities of the Ombudsman. 

The next training titled “National Preventive Mechanism activity of the Ombudsman” falling within May 18 - June 18, Human Rights Month-long Campaign declared by the Ombudsman, was organized in an online form by the Academy of Justice for the newly recruited staff members of the Forensic Examination Center.

The lecture was delivered by Rashid Rumzada, the head of department at the Ombudsman Office and the head of National Preventive Group. He informed the participants about the Ombudsman’s initiatives and proposals taken into account whilst making amendments to legislation, the activities for human rights protection and as the NPM, the approaches shown with regard to investigating conditions of detention and treatment on the basis of international tools.

Istanbul Protocol, SPT recommendations and standards included in CPT general reports, as well as national legislative acts have been communicated to participants in coordination.

At the same time, R. Rumzada informed them about the Ombudsman’s regular visits carried out to the places, which persons cannot leave on their own will in fulfilling the functions designated in the OPCAT. The information on recommendations given by the NPG and on their fulfillment level were also touched upon by providing examples from national, foreign and international practices.

The Ombudsman’s activity in human rights protection, also as the NPM was welcomed by participants; their questions were answered.
