Representative of the Ombudsman Office participated in the assembly of Society of Visually Impaired People of Azerbaijan

Recently, the 17th General Assembly of the Society of Visually Impaired People of Azerbaijan was held. At the event related to report on the activities done in 2019 were brought into the attention and plan of actions, which are considered to be held in the current year, were discussed. 


Representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and the members of the Society of Visually Impaired People participated in the event. 


At the event the Ombudsman’s advisor on the rights of persons with disabilities, Mugalib Mahmudov welcomed the participants of the event on behalf of the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva. He gave information to the participants about the activities carried out in the field of ensuring human rights and freedoms which are reflected in the country Constitution and the international treaties, which Azerbaijan is a party to, and also on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled (VIP Treaty), as well as in national legislative acts. He also provided information about the activities of the Ombudsman related to propagation, promotion and protection of human rights. 


M.Mahmudov said that the situation of  ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities are regularly analyzed, new proposals are made for improvement of new national legislative acts, drafts of state programs and also the domestic legislative acts in force. He also mentioned that the complaints and applications received by the institution are investigated objectively and comprehensively. He highlighted that in order to make the Ombudsman institution available for people from this group, ramps have been constructed at the stairs of administrative building, necessary  recommendations have been given to related bodies and results are kept in control and in most cases, the matters reflected in those recommendations have been solved positively.
The Head of the Society of Visually Impaired People of Azerbaijan and others who delivered speeches highly appreciated the activities of the Ombudsman on protection of the rights of the persons with disabilities.
