The "Hierarchic Education on Child Rights" project is underway

Paragraph 4.4 of the National Program for Action to Raise Effectiveness of the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan envisages enhancing of teaching of human rights at specialized vocational and higher education institutions and develop peer-to-peer teaching of the rights of the child in secondary schools. In this context, the hierarchic education program on child rights in secondary schools is being continued by the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The focus of the interactive learning process is to develop students’ knowledge on the child rights.


This should be noted that in the 2019-2020 academic year, the hierarchic education program on child rights is being implemented in 20 secondary schools, being one school from districts of Baku and from other regions - Dashkasan, Goygol, Shabran, Khachmaz, Lerik, Yardimli, Gakh and Zagatala.


The booklet “Convention on the Rights of the Child” prepared by the Ombudsman institution in the Azerbaijani language and the manual titled “Selected topics on hierarchic education on child rights”, other legal publications and posters have been used during the implementation of program. 


Totally, more than 190 schools in all districts of Baku, 32 other cities and regions of the country have been involved in the annual Hierarchic Child Rights Education Program since 2009-2010, over 11.500 students, also 900 principals and teachers have been respectively awarded with certificates and letters of appreciation of the Ombudsman.


In general, this program is also a crucial contribution to the specialization of relevant subject teachers regarding human rights in addition to teaching children’s rights, improving students’ knowledge and speaking skills, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
