On February 10, 2020, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva had a meeting with Zacharie Gross, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to our country.
After greeting, the Commissioner gave detailed information to the guest about the extensive activity directions of the Ombudsman institution. Sabina Aliyeva brought it to the attention of the guest that the institution acts continuously and expediently towards protecting, promoting and restoring human rights and freedoms in accordance with the Constitution, national legislation and the international conventions to which the Republic of Azerbaijan is a party. The Commissioner also spoke about the activity of Ganja, Guba, Sheki and Jalilabad regional centers of the institution.
The Ombudsman particularly emphasized that twenty percent of the territory of Azerbaijan is under the Armenian occupation. All the fundamental rights of more than a million Azerbaijanis, who became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenian aggression, are violated.
Expressing his thankfulness for the sincere reception, the Ambassador Zacharie Gross congratulated Sabina Aliyeva on her election as the new Commissioner and wished success in her activity. Noting the special importance of the meeting from the point of efficient cooperation, the Ambassador said that the relations between France and Azerbaijan covering different areas are of mutually beneficial and dynamical character.
At the end, the sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest.
