Sheki and Ganja Regional Centers of the Ombudsman held events regarding elections

Sheki and Ganja Regional Centers of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held events on voting rights.

Broad information was provided regarding the elections to the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) during the event entitled “Election rights are fundamental rights of citizens” held in Garatala village of Gakh district with participation of representatives of Sheki Regional Center of the Ombudsman, local executive bodies and the residents. During the event, the participants were informed about the reforms carried out to improve the electoral legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, principles of electoral law, also rights and duties of the citizens concerning the elections.

Further,Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman and Ganja City Main Department of Youth and Sport jointly organized an awareness-raising meeting for young people to vote for the first time in the Parliamentary elections of February 9. The participants were informed in detail about the provisions of the Election Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organization of the voting process, the actions that voters should take on the voting day, and how to appeal concerning the violations of electoral rights.

It was noted at the event that the staff members of the Ombudsman institute monitor the elections in the country as independent observers.
