The next event within the project “Gender-based violence - the tragedy of our society” was held with support of the Sabunchu District Executive Power, Ministry of Education, Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.
Deputy Head of the Sabunchu District Executive Power and Head of the Monitoring Group on Gender Violence and Child Abuse, Rena Farajova, staff members of the Ombudsman Office, Vafa Verdiyeva and Lamiya Zeynalova, chief advisor of the Legal Department of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs, head of the Sabunchu District Youth and Sport Department, principals of schools of the district, teachers, schoolchildren and parents participated in that event.
Speaking at the event the representative of the Ombudsman Office, Lamiya Zeynalova stressed that the Commissioner has always paid special attention to the protection of women’s and children’s rights, the fight against violence and ensuring gender equality. In addition, information was provided about the Ombudsman’s multi-field activities related to awareness-raising in the field of prevention of domestic violence, early marriage and school dropout, as well as the hotline 916, which provide 24-hour services on child rights violations. Publications of the Ombudsman Office on children’s rights were presented to the school.
Paintings and plays prepared by schoolchildren on the topic of gender-based violence were exhibited in the event. In conclusion, schoolchildren actively taking part in project implementation were awarded diplomas by Sabunchu District Youth and Sports Department.
