Representative of the Commissioner attended event dedicated to the gender equality

The issue of ensuring gender equality is also paid special attention in the activity of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Continious, comprehensive and systematic measures are being maintained targeting more reliable protection and promotion of the women’s rights, as well as supporting their participation in public-political life of the country and achieving equal opportunities between men and women.

Recently, the event on promotion of the gender equality was organized by the Baku city Sabunchu District Executive Power, where the Head of Unit at the Ombudsman Office Turan Jahangirova delivered a speech and informed the participants about the history of the rights of women and children as an inherent part of the human rights, the national and international legislation and the measures taken by our state in this area.

She noted the comprehensive activity of the Ombudsman related to peace issues, awareness raising on the reasons, types and ways of prevention of the violence against children and women and its negative impact, as well as ensuring and protecting their rights, including eliminating domestic violence, cases of early marriage and  evasion from education.

Principals, teachers, students and parents from the schools of the district,  also the representatives of  Sabunchu District Executive Power, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sport, State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs participated at the event.

Within the framework of the event T.Jahangirova sounded the proposals put forward by the Commissioner in the field of effectively ensuring the rights of women and children. Creating necessary conditions for bringing up children in a healthy environment; implementing measures for preventing exposure of children to torture or manipulation in some situations of conflict arising between parents; instilling moral values and a sense of patriotism in children and youth; increasing activity and initiative by children and women in regions; development of leadership skills, establishing networks expanding the circle of interests of children, strengthening legal awareness activity in the whole country, drafting publicity materials and others are among such kind of proposals.
