The Ombudsman annually held Peace month-long campaign throughout the country from 21 August-21 September. In the framework of the whole month central and local executive bodies, in cooperation with international organizations, educational institutions, NGOs and media outlets hold round tables, conferences, competitions and exhibitions on the relevant topic.
Regional Offices of the Ombudsman also participated in this month-long campaign by organizing awareness raising events devoted to peace in regions. During those events, the Ombudsman staff of the Regional Offices increase awareness of participants about history of the establishment of International Peace Day and of the national peace month-long campaign initiated by the Commissioner; its global significance; peace dialogue; importance of peaceful resettlement of armed conflicts, violating human rights; interrelations between peace and tolerance, as well as the significance of this campaign, which facilitates to improving legal and peace culture in the society.
It was noted that peaceful values of Azerbaijan, including national tolerance dated back to centuries, multiculturalism may be a model for peace in the global arena. Also, taking into account the significance of specific measures for strengthening the universal peace and just and peaceful resolution of armed conflicts, the Commissioner annually issues Statements and submits to international organizations.
In the course of the public awareness events, there have been given broad information about Ombudsman’s human rights activities. Holding such events is highly appreciated by the public.
