Ganja and Jalilabad Regional Centers of the Ombudsman have organized awareness raising events.
Recently, staff members of Ganja Regional Center paid a visit to the Adult Day Care Center in Ganja. The representatives of the Office got familiar with the condition of the facility on site that was established under the Public Union “Təmas” (Contact) with the financial support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population. The Ombudsman’s representatives met with the elderly persons in that center to be aware of their status.
It was told that the key purposes of the project included ensuring activity of the day care center in Ganja city, providing psychological support and consultation, improving their skills for self-service with different hobby groups by considering their interests and skills, organizing their leisure time and different relevant events.
Representatives of the Office informed the elderly about the activity of the institution and the protection of rights of different groups, including the elderly. Moreover, they were given booklets which are the publications of the Ombudsman Office. Within the meeting the senior persons making use of services of the center expressed their satisfaction about the Ombudsman’s attention.
Meanwhile, awareness events were also organized at high schools of Lankaran by the Jalilabad Regional Center of the Ombudsman jointly with Lankaran Regional department of the State Committee on Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Lankaran City Education Department on the topic of “Importance of promoting moral values in the fight against religious extremism”.
Within the events the head of Jalilabad Regional Center Z.Ismayilov delivered a speech conveying greetings of the Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova and wished success to teachers and students for the new school year. He noted that the children are in the Commissioner’s focus of attention as other groups of population.
Representative of the Ombudsman informed the children about Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Child, Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Rights of the Child, National Action Program, other necessary provisions, as well as Hierarchic Child Rights Legal Education and Ombudsman’s “916” hotline service that is active for 24 hours.
During the event, the importance of promoting moral values and educating children in such a spirit was highlighted. They were also informed about actions to fight religious extremism and other harmful habits and the necessity of protecting the youth from negative tendencies.
