Hierarchic Child Rights Education program was successfully completed

As reported before, Hierarchic Child Rights Education is implemented in secondary schools at the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

The education program realized with the participation of children as trainers contributes to learning child rights and improving their knowledge, rhetorical skills, increasing their social activeness, also specialization of teachers. The booklet “Convention on the Rights of the Child” in Azerbaijani language and manual of “Selected Topics on Hierarchic Child Rights Education” and other legal publications have been used in the teaching process.

The program held at totally 20 schools, being one from each district of Baku and Aghstafa, Gazakh, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Sheki, Gabala, Khizi and Siyazan rayons within the academic year 2018-2019, has been completed. It should be mentioned that the Hierarchic Child Rights Education project has been carried out in Chilov Island, school No.131 for the first time.

Within the Human Rights Month-Long Campaign events have been organized at these schools; 1285 students successfully participated in the Program were awarded with certificates, more than 80 principals and teachers were presented letter of thanks.

During awarding certificates, staff members of the Ombudsman Office congratulated and wished success to the children on behalf of the Commissioner. They advised to learn their rights, instilling this knowledge to peers, fulfilling their duties. The school administration was recommended to benefit from the knowledge of children, to support other students too for learning children’s rights.

More than 190 schools in the country have been involved in this process; about 11.500 students were awarded with certificates, nearly 900 principals and teachers with letter of thanks since the academic year 2009-2010.
