Azerbaijan Child and Peace Network (ACYPN), the Resource Center of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova, held an event on the occasion of 5 June- World Environment Day as previous years.
The event was organized in “Eco Park: Environmental Studies Center” Public Union in Gala settlement with the title “Work for healthy environment”. The aim of the event was to educate children in the spirit of protecting environment, love for the homeland, efficient use of our natural resources, shaping their ecological consciousness, also preservation of biological diversity. Ombudsman’s specialized adviser on environmental rights Gulnar Rahimova, director of the above-noted Public Union Tahir Shikhaliyev, representatives from SOCAR, members of the ACYPN participated at the event.
An exhibition of handicrafts made by children using plastic household waste was organized within the event.
The representative of the Ombudsman made a speech touching upon the International Day for Protection of Children and World Environment Day, informing about the Commissioner’s comprehensive activity in protecting and ensuring human rights, including child rights, environmental rights of citizens, actions taken for promotion and formation of ecological culture, as well as the mutual cooperation built with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the joint events.
It was noted that such events are aimed at joining global youth environmental campaign “International Dialogue for Environmental Action” (IDEA) started by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, also uniting children around environmental issues, integration to the problem of ecological imbalance and environmental pollution, one of the main global challenges faced in the world.
T.Shikhaliyev thanked to the Ombudsman for her initiative, involving children in environmental policy projects and awareness-raising.
Within the official part of the event, information and interesting presentations made by ACYPN members on the activities carried out for realization of environmental rights were heard.
At the end, members of the ACYPN planted a memorial tree in the territory of the Park.
