Awareness-raising event was held in Chilov Island

The next event to raise legal awareness within the Human Rights Month-long Campaign, declared at the initiative of the Commissioner, was held at school No.131 named after National Hero of Azerbaijan R.Ibrahimov in Chilov Island with support of the Pirallahi District Executive Power.

Staff members of the Office F.Aghayev, I.Afganli, D.Ismayilova took part in the event, where representative of the Pirallahi District Executive Power H.Shikarov, school principal, students and teachers attended.

F.Aghayev congratulated the school staff on the occasion of the Republic Day, International Day for Protection of Children and Ramadan holiday on behalf of the Commissioner.  It was noted that the Ombudsman acts as an independent monitoring mechanism for learning the state of ensuring of children’s rights and their protection within the scope of competences.

The staff members later conducted an interactive training with students in accordance with the Hierarchic Child Rights Education program. They provided information on children’s rights, relevant legislation and institutions, managed discussion about the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) articles and answered the questions of students.

The CRC booklet, manual of “Selected Topics on Hierarchic Child Rights Education” and other publications were used during the training. Teaching aids were donated to the school library as well.

At the end of the training, actively participated schoolchildren were awarded with certificates signed by the Ombudsman and the UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan. The principal and teachers closely cooperated in the process were given letter of thanks.

The event organizers expressed their thanks to the Commissioner for that awareness-raising event, which was held in the Chilov Island for the first time.

The staff members also visited kindergarten of the SOCAR’s “Azneft” Production Union and got familiar with the nutrition of children, arrangement of leisure time and education procedure, where they observed that conditions serve development of children.
