The next event within the “Gender violence-tragedy of our society” project was held at the initiative of Sabunchu District Executive Power at school No.198 of Ramana settlement.
Deputy Head of Sabunchu District Executive Power, staff members of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, principals of the secondary schools, teachers, students and parents participated at the event, which the representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Lamiya Zeynalova also attended.
The event was started by viewing the paintings and wall newspapers prepared by the schoolchildren with respect to the subject. The students displayed videos and short plays on the topic of gender-based violence.
The chief advisor of the Scientific-analytical Unit of the Ombudsman Office L.Zeynalova delivered a speech noting the specific attention paid by the Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova to the issue of ensuring gender equality. Continuous, extensive and systematic measures are implemented for reliable protection and promotion of women’s rights along with rights of other population groups, as well as supporting their participation in social-political life of the country and achieving equal opportunities between men and women.
The staff member of the Office also highlighted the comprehensive activity of the Ombudsman regarding the awareness-raising on the elimination of cases as domestic violence, early marriage and evasion from education.
At the end, the schoolchildren taken active part in the project “Gender violence-tragedy of our society” were awarded with diplomas by Sabunchu District Youth and Sport Department.
