Guba Regional Center of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an event titled “Let’s say no to drug addiction” at Garachay village school in Guba.
The event was attended by addiction specialist-doctor, representatives of Guba Police and Education Departments, local municipality, higher grade students and the rural community.
The head of the Guba Regional Center Bahruz Afandiyev noted in his speech that drug-addiction is one of the most pressing problems of our time, thus, the awareness and preventive measures are very crucial for the elimination of this tragedy. He mentioned that the protection of health of population entails to conservation of physical and mental health of everyone, increase of active longevity and set of political, economic, legal, medical, sanitary-hygienic measures aimed at provision of medical assistance.
There was also provided information on the State Program “Azerbaijani Youth in 2017-2021” approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in 2017 , that reflected the promotion of healthy lifestyle among youth, holding awareness-raising events with regard to negative effect of drug addiction, tobacco, alcohol and other psychoactive substances, prophylaxis of infectious and non-infectious diseases, healthy nutrition, enhancement of knowledge and improvement of behaviors.
He gave broad information about the fight against drug addiction, the protection of rights of HIV/AIDS infected patients, also awareness-raising in this regard, covering a wide space in the extensive activity of the Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova. Effective proposals put forward by the Commissioner to contribute to the positive change in the field of fight against drug addiction were also brought to the attention of the attendees.
The event continued with the speeches of other participants, numerous questions were answered.
