Events dedicated to May 28 - Republic Day were held

A range of events were organized by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova on the occasion of May 28, the Republic Day.

These events were held by regional centers of the Ombudsman, as well as in the Commissioner’s Resource Centers and educational institutions.

Regional Centers of the Ombudsman organized such series of events in the surrounding regions, where the staff members of state bodies, educational workers, teachers, students and wide public took part.

The event in the Leadership School was attended by the Head of a Department of the Office F. Aghayev and the officer of the Ministry of Defence, Honored Art Worker and holder of individual pension of the President, A.Gurbani, members of the school and their parents. The Head of a Unit of the Office M. Mahmudov participated at the event in the Resource Center for the Elderly.

Similar events were also held at the schools in Baku and regions, where the Hierarchic Child Rights Education is implemented.

During the events, it was informed about the Declaration of Independence of Azerbaijan adopted on May 28, 1918, that proclaimed Azerbaijan as a full and independent state, granted the highest power to Azerbaijani people, entitled all citizens civil and political rights without any discrimination, set forth friendly relations with the members of international community and neighboring states. Moreover, it was peculiar for the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), the first parliamentary republic in the Muslim East and Turkish world, to establish human rights and freedoms, to grant women suffrage before several European states, to build the National Army and necessary public structure, despite its coming into existence in a very complicated time, accompanied by massive genocide acts against Azerbaijanis from March, 1918. The ADR was recognized by a number of foreign states, established diplomatic relations. However, the territory of Azerbaijan was occupied on April 28, 1918, the independence was lost.

By the way, declaring 2018 as the Year of the Republic by the relevant Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, organizing relevant events, military parades, as well as the achievements in the country have been welcomed by all Azerbaijanis, including compatriots living abroad.
