A seminar on the topic of “Migration processes in modern Azerbaijan” was held at the Leadership School under the Azerbaijan Child and Youth Peace Network (ACYPN), the Resource Center of the Ombudsman on Child Rights founded at the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova.
The event held with the participation of head of department of the Ombudsman Office Faig Aghayev, chairman of Public council under the State Migration Service (SMS) Azer Allahveranov, secretary of the same council and member of the ACYPN Kanan Baghirov, as well as the members of the Leadership School, teachers and parents.
F.Aghayev delivered a speech providing information on the April victory, bravery of the Azerbaijani Army demonstrated in this historical glorious page, return of our citizens to native Jojug Marjanly that was liberated from occupation, measures taken by the state on creating proper infrastructure for them and the Commissioner’s visits to that settlement together with the members of the resource center. The fact that the Azerbaijani population reached ten million and its significance for our people was also emphasized.
He also informed about the work in ensuring and protecting migrants’ rights, the Commissioner’s comprehensive activity in field, as well as the cooperation with the SMS and relevant UN bodies.
A.Allahveranov, the expert in migration field noted about the migration policy of our state, migrant groups, conditions on their determination, causes of migration of people, international refugees in Azerbaijan and the work carried out with them, statistical indicators, migration balance and other issues.
In his turn, K.Baghirov made a speech informing about the active participation of the ACYPN in migration processes by representation in the above-mentioned public council, regularly addressing proposals to that council on different issues, rendering necessary support to the citizens on the faced difficulties, as well as holding awareness raising events about migration topic and noted this area as a priority direction in the activity of the network.
The guests expressed appreciation for organizing seminar on such a topical subject and useful exchange of opinions, as well as for the attention and care the Ombudsman paid to the development of intellectual skills of children and youth in the Leadership School, they also answered a number of questions of the children.
